Retaining wall drainage info

A well built corten retaining wall with proper drainage will easily last 30-50yrs plus, depending on the environment

Retaining wall drainage info

Proper drainage is essential for all corten retaining walls to prevent failure. Accumulated water behind the wall causes immense hydrostatic pressure, a lateral force that can cause the structure to bulge, or collapse. Drainage systems, like gravel backfill and perforated pipes, relieve this pressure, prevent hydrostatic pressure failures,

All parts predrilled for easy assembly

The modular design of Corten panel walls allows for faster installation These panels can be easily put together with minimal required tools and expertise. Our corten retaining wall system is DIY friendly and all parts come pre drilled ready to install with no special tools required. You should not need to do any cutting or welding of the corten.

Generally the retaining wall pile hole depth is equal to the height of the retaining wall. However in softer soils or walls supporting sloping ground, driveways, or buildings, the post and pile retaining wall method solves this by adjusting the post spacings and pile depths.

Setout examples with top capping

Corten steel requires no maintenance, as over time it develops a crystalline rust patina that dramatically reduces further corrosion

Protection of Buried Corten

Protecting the buried portion of Corten steel is crucial. Above ground, it forms a protective patina through repeated wetting and drying cycles over many months. However, buried sections may remain constantly moist, preventing this patina from forming. Applying a bitumen coating to the buried parts of the wall, creates a waterproof barrier, stopping corrosion and ensuring the corten retaining wall achieves its intended long lifespan.
